Empowered by the Risen Lord

Gen. 28:10-22       Ps. 29

Acts 20:7-12       Jn. 20:11-18

Verse for meditation: “Jesus said, ‘Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God’” (Jn. 20:17).

The resurrected Jesus appeared to many at different places (1 Cor. 15:4-8). Through many examples He proved that he is alive on earth and taught many things related to the kingdom of God for forty days (Acts 1:3). Sadhu Sundar Singh, who is known as the Indian apostle also received such revelations from Jesus Christ. Through the resurrection appearances He has empowered and prepared many for his ministry. As fearless and empowered they witnessed the Lord.

1.  The vision to Jacob and his empowerment (Gen. 28:10-22).

God gave vision to Jacob at Bethel while he was running away from his brother out of fear. In his dream he saw a ladder touching heaven and earth on which the angels of God were climbing up and coming down. He travelled further with the strength he has received from this dream. That travel was the beginning of a great group of people of God – the journey of Israel. Today also in the same way we should be able to experience the power of the risen Christ.

2.  The power that gives life (Acts 20:7-12)

Eutychus, who was sleepy at late night, as he was listening to the preaching of Paul at Troas, fell from the roof top. Paul went down and threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him and brought him to life. The resurrected Christ gives us the power to raise up what has fallen down and gives life to what is dying. Even today the Lord strengthens and lifts up us at times when we are weak facing the challenges in life. This is the empowerment given by Jesus.

3.   Go and tell   (Jn. 20: 11-18)

The resurrected Christ appeared to Mary. Jesus empowered her to go and tell it to the brothers (Jn. 21:17). In the same way as the father has sent Jesus he also sent his disciples into the world to forgive sins. The power that the resurrected Christ gives us is to become his witnesses (Acts 1:8).
