God is a God of all people. Religions were formed with man’s search for God. When this search took place in various circumstances the philosophical thoughts that grew with it helped form the many religions. But God doesn’t have a religion because even though religions are made by man, God isn’t. That is why Jesus introduced spirituality that is beyond religion. Jesus’ stand was that He did not come to abolish the Law and prophets but to fulfill them (Matt. 5: 17). We live in a multi-religious society with multi- faceted contradictions of different faiths and rituals. In accordance with the 2011 census, 80.5% Indians are Hindus. Our India is a secular country with 13.4% Muslims, 2.3% Christians, 1.9% Sikhs, 0.8% Buddhists, 0.4% Jains and 0.6% people following various Adhivasi religions. The unseen Grace of God is needed in abundance to share the values of the gospel in this multi-religious society. Jesus criticized the act of crossing land and sea to convert people to make them part of a religion (Matthew 23: 14). It is man’s vision of God that should change. A transformation of the heart is what is needed.
1. Deliverance for All (Amos 9: 1- 12)
God has been a deliverer for all at all times. The history of all the deliverances is not available to us. Like how the Israelites were delivered from the Egyptians, God delivered the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir (Amos 9: 7). From ages to ages God has acted as a God of deliverance for all. He still continues to work (Isaiah 19: 20-25).
2. A Savior for All ( John 10: 14- 18)
I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen (John 10: 16)- no boundary can be marked for what Jesus said. Jesus’ sheep can be spread over many communities. God has spoken to many gentiles. Let us look at some examples:
- Abraham introduced his wife Sarah, as his sister. Abimelech, the king of Gerar, took away Sarah. At this point God spoke to Abilmelech in the night (Genesis 20: 1- 18). Abimelech was a Gentile (a Philistine King).
- God revealed to the Egyptian ruler, Pharaoh, about the famine that is about to come, through a dream (Genesis 41: 1).
- Balaam, a Gentile, received God’s revelations (Numbers 22).
- Through a dream God revealed to the idol worshipper, Nebuchadnezzar, about the events of end – times and also about the coming of the Messiah (Daniel 2). Nebchadnezzar himself prepared his own idol and prompted the people to worship it.
- The people of Nineveh, who were Gentiles, heard God’s word accepted it and repented (Jonah 3: 4).
- In the New Testament, Pilate’s wife received a message regarding Jesus through a dream (Matthew 27: 19).
3. Salvation to All (Romans 2: 17- 29)
Salvation is God’s gift for all (Revelations 7: 9, 10). That is why Christ’s birth is known as good news that will cause great joy for all people (Luke 2: 10).Without difference as Jews and Gentiles, all have become entangled in sin. Therefore salvation became a necessity for all people. Paul argued that there is no speciality for a Jew because a Jew who is outwardly a Jew alone is not a Jew at all. Circumcision is also not outward and physical (Romans 2: 28). “What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision?” (Romans 3:1) is what Paul asked. God has no partiality (Acts 10: 34; Hebrews 13: 5; Galatians 3: 27).
